The Medical Center of Aurora is comprised of six campus in Aurora and Centennial, CO, including the Main Campus, North Campus (Behavioral Health and Wellness Center), Centennial Medical Plaza, Saddle Rock ER, Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital, Spalding Rehabilitation at P/SL and a medical office building at Green Valley Ranch. This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora/Centennial Medical Plaza of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person that may ultimately lead to a higher quality of life through increased physical health, emotional well-being and greater connection to social aspects outside the hospital setting.
Using leisure as a treatment modality, patients utilize functional interventions such as leisure education and recreation participation to further develop, maintain and express an appropriate leisure lifestyle.
Therapeutic Recreation Specialists help the patient set goals for progress during hospitalization, plan and implement structured group programming and evaluate patient progress in meeting those goals prior to discharge using interventions such as creative expression, stress management and mindfulness techniques and clarifying patient’s leisure needs at home for continued exploration after hospitalization.

American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Card
Bachelor’s Degree from Accredited CTRS Program.
Master’s Degree preferred
2-4 years in an Acute Care setting.
Mental Health care experience preferred
Must have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and able to work with a highly diverse population.
Must be knowledgeable of ADAD and Joint Commission standards.
Must have ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work in high stress environment.
Must be able to apply critical thinking and formulate diagnostic impressions based upon review of systems, history, symptoms and current presentation.
