The Director of Ambulatory Clinical Services reports to the Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) in the Faculty Practice Organization (FPO). This position is responsible for the leadership and administration of nursing practice and standards of registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, medical assistants, and associated ancillary staff within the FPO. In conjunction with the ACNO this position serves as a key resource for problem identification and resolution, program development and planning, policy creation and implementation, and long range planning for staff development and competency.
Responsibilities will include provision of leadership and direction in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of UCSF Health strategic goals, quality & performance improvement, financial performance, nursing practice and resource utilization. The Director contributes to nursing services and the clinical enterprise through support of philosophy, objectives, and educational efforts. In conjunction with the ACNO, the Director oversees FPO staff responsible for ensuring clinical competency and regulatory readiness in FPO and provides advice and recommendations regarding effective and efficient nursing care provision, patient care policy & procedure, standards of infection prevention, program development, and implementation of state/federal regulations and The Joint Commission Standards.
The ACNO and Director will serve as a mentor, facilitator, and consultant for Ambulatory Directors, Managers, Supervisors, Providers, Clinical staff, Professional/Administrative and office staff, and assistive personnel, and other disciplines as assigned. In collaboration with the ACNO the Director will work closely with Department Chairs, Medical Directors, and medical staff.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Registered Nurse in the State of California
Seven to ten years of administrative responsibility within a complex academic health care organization with progressive experience in nursing leadership positions at a Director levelposition or higher
Five years clinical practice leadership experience in an ambulatory clinic setting
Two years’ experience with knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation standards, survey
process and other CDPH/CMS regulatory requirements in an ambulatory setting
Extensive knowledge of clinic / center patient care management. Highly developed knowledgeof appropriate professional standards for a multidisciplinary team. Highly developed knowledgeof patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services.
Advanced communications and interpersonal skills to promote an effective model of sharedgovernance among multiple disciplines. Ability to motivate and engage all levels of staff inregards to patient care programs, strategies, and organizational mission and values.
Advanced leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills. Ability to develop nurse /clinical leaders in their adoption and promotion of a shared governance model of collaboration.
Ability to develop a systems strategic plan and implement vision across a large, complex
In-depth knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as legislative, accreditation,licensing, and compliance environments.
Highly advanced ability to successfully direct clinic / center patient care and / or clinicoperations including developing strategic plans, creating benchmarks, integrating programsand functions, and fiscal management.
In-depth knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic /center healthcare industry.
Doctoral Degree in Nursing
Experience in facility planning and major building projects Pref
Working knowledge of UCSF policies and procedures Pref
Experience in a unionized environment
Recognized certification in nursing leadership or administration Pref
