The Administrative Director is responsible for fiscal, human resource and quality outcomes for the Ambulatory Dermatology and Dermatology Surgery Practice. This includes actively overseeing all administrative and clinical operations and serving as a role model for the practice. Working closely with the Medical Directors and Director of Medical Specialties, the Administrative Director will lead the management team to develop standards of care to ensure high quality, cost effective delivery of care and spearhead innovative projects for program improvements.
The Administrative Director works with managers, supervisors and staff on a clearly defined and communicated vision and engages individuals and groups to achieve that vision. The Administrative Director identifies and develops organizational talent and embraces continuous learning of self and others. The Administrative Director collaborates with the Medical Directors and the Director to advance quality strategies, ensure a positive professional work environment, facilitate timeliness of services, and enhance patient and staff satisfaction. The Administrative Director oversees all aspects of the provision of administrative and clinical services including the maintenance of safety and technical/clinical performance, quality, standards of care, practice guidelines, service delivery and patient and customer satisfaction. This position is responsible for financial accountability and working collaboratively with the Director and Finance Manager to monitor the operating budget. This position has 7 supervisors and mangers and one physician assistant that are direct reports. There are 58 other indirect reports (51 FTEs) that report to this position. There are 6 work sites, 6 cost centers and 15 DEPs that this position supports.
Implements and monitors the financial process for a comprehensive view of current and forecasted clinic performance, to include revenues, costs, industry trends, and reimbursements.
Manages the clinical and operational functions and staff. Recommends allocation of staff, space, equipment, and other resources to optimize the delivery of clinical services. Implements quality improvement systems. Ensures compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
Researches and prepares proposals for facilities expansion, satellite development, construction, space planning, capital equipment requests, and staffing needs.
Responsible for employee recruitment, performance evaluation, progressive discipline, and staff development. Works collaboratively with Labor Relations on bargaining unit issues and contract negotiations at the local level.
Research, develop, and recommend internal policies and procedures for identifying, eliminating or mitigating risk management issues within the practice(s).
Promotes a workplace culture with a focus on meeting or exceeding patient service standards. Develops an environment that encourages creativity, efficiency, engagement, quality of care, safety, and innovations in operations.
Implements processes and metrics to assure viability of existing programs, practice patient staffing patterns, and optimize productivity. Recommends operational performance improvements that impact marketability and service.
Assures internal policies and external regulations are followed in regards to billing and coding practices and cash handling.
Works collaboratively with Labor Relations on bargaining unit issues and contract negotiations at the local level. Facilitates and oversees resolution of human resources, labor relations, employee safety and risk management issues.
The Dermatology practices at UCSF Medical Center are regional centers offering a broad spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services for patients of all ages with cutaneous problems. We provide the most comprehensive skin cancer treatment program in Northern California, are the region's only vascular anomalies center and provide a complete psoriasis treatment program.
The Dermatology Clinic offers a wide range of treatments for patients with skin problems, including the following conditions; acne, autoimmune and connective tissue disease, HIV-related skin disorders, mole, atypical nevus, melanoma surveillance, disorders of cornification, pigmented disorders, environmental dermatitis, rosacea, hair and nail disorders, wound and ulcer care, human papillomavirus (HPV).
The procedures performed in the Dermatology clinics include biopsies, incisions, Mohs surgery and cosmetic procedures.
Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing
Registered Nurse licensure in the state of California
Current AHA BLS certification
Minimum five years or more of management experience in an ambulatory care setting
In depth clinic / center patient care management skills. Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and/or information technology. Familiar with the policies, best practices, and standards involved with effective clinic/center administration. In-depth knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services.
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines.
Excellent leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives.
Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.
Excellent skills in all aspects of successfully directing clinic / center patient care and / or clinic operations including developing strategic plans, creating benchmarks, integrating programs and functions, and fiscal management.
Excellent skills in promoting and fostering an environment of DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) ensuring that all staff and faculty have the opportunity to reach their maximum potential and maintaining a culture free of bias, discrimination and hate.
Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.

Experience with ambulatory care clinical practices.
Experience using EMR-EPIC/APeX
Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or related area and/or equivalent combination of experience/training
Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory experience in an outpatient clinic familiar with Dermatology diseases
Registered Nurse licensure in the state of California
Current AHA BLS certification
