MaineHealth Maine Medical Center, seeks a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Physician Assistant to join our team in Portland, Maine. We are a cohesive team representing many disciplines, including Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, Pharmacists, Resident Physicians and Medical Students. We value teamwork and strive to nurture a supportive environment. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides psychiatric consultation to inpatients at Maine Medical Center. The candidate should have a comfort working with patients with substance use disorders.
This full time position includes a weekend day and 4 weekdays. From 8:00am to 4:00pm. They provide face to face psychiatric evaluations and medication recommendations to patients on medical/surgical units. Due to the hospital-based setting, an ability to multitask and manage acute clinical scenarios is essential.
Desired COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Education: Master’s degree with an advanced knowledge of nursing and/or medical theory and practice
License/Certification: Current and valid license as a Nurse Practitioner by the Maine State Board of Nursing, or as a Physician Assistant by the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine, and qualified to do psychiatric evaluations and medication management for adults and youth. Specific credentialing criteria as defined by Medical Staff By-Laws.
Experience: 2+ years of patient care in ambulatory mental health or hospital is preferred.
Advanced skill and knowledge in psychiatric diagnosis and psychopharmacology. Comfort in treating patients with comorbid medical problems. Desire to work in a dynamic, fast-paced hospital setting. Strong teamwork and communication skills.
The provider should also have strong diagnostic skills and knowledge of psychotropic medications.
